Home is a dojo for cultivating the heart. We are gentle and decent outside, but when we get home, we are easily triggered by a single sentence—home, which should be the harbor we most want to escape to, has become a place where emotions run wild.
After enlightenment, the old Zen master chopped wood as just chopping wood, carried water as just carrying water. Cultivation is never in remote mountains; it is in the present moment of washing dishes, accompanying children, and listening to your partner's complaints—with a pure heart and focus on the now.
Wang Yangming said, "Practice in the world." The trivialities and conflicts at home are never troubles, but exams to temper your mind. When anger surges, ask yourself: what angers you is not the thing itself, but the breakdown of the "shoulds" you preset in your heart.
Replace "you should" with "I choose". Pause for three seconds when angry, jump out of obsession, and you will see the tiredness and dedication behind your family.
Home is a mirror that reflects yourself. Those seemingly annoying people and things are all tests for cultivating the heart. When your heart is calm, your home is harmonious, and the whole world will naturally go smoothly.
