Zhu Zhiwu spent most of his life as a low-level officer in the state of Zheng, overlooked and underused. Only when the combined armies of Qin and Jin surrounded the capital and no minister could find a way out did someone remember him. At night, he slipped out of the city alone and met the King of Qin. He carried no weapons and used no threats — only clear reasoning. He laid out why destroying Zheng would harm Qin's own interests and persuaded the army to withdraw. The deeper lesson is this: real capability isn't permanently buried. When you're clear-headed and can see where real advantage lies, even someone of modest position can defuse a national crisis.
